Empowering Humanitarian Leaders in Afghanistan: Strengthening Local Capacity for Sustainable Impact

As part of our commitment to advancing local leadership and capacity in crisis-affected regions, Mind Bridge International (MBI) LLC has launched its first on-ground initiative in Afghanistan—focusing on strengthening the institutional capacities of national non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Training Spotlight: Capacity Building for OSAA

In May 2025, MBI proudly conducted a three-day intensive training workshop for the program staff of the Organization for Sustainable Aid in Afghanistan (OSAA)—a respected, women-led NGO that has been delivering vital services in western Afghanistan since 2015. OSAA is a key local actor, dedicated to empowering women, youth, and marginalized populations through vocational training, advocacy, awareness-raising, entrepreneurship development, and humanitarian assistance.

Training Focus: Building Blocks of Sustainability for NGOs

The training was designed to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by Afghan civil society organizations, particularly in an era of declining international funding and shifting global priorities. The sessions covered a range of technical and strategic topics, including:

  • Donor Mapping and Engagement
  • Fundraising Strategies and Proposal Writing
  • Grant Compliance and Policy Development
  • Resource Diversification and Financial Sustainability
  • Impact Measurement and Reporting for Donors

Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, group discussions, and practical planning sessions to ensure the training would translate into immediate, actionable strategies within their organization.

Empowering Through Knowledge: A Shared Commitment

What made the workshop especially impactful was the dedication and resilience of OSAA’s staff—both women and men—who continue their humanitarian missions under extraordinarily challenging conditions. Despite reduced donor attention and operational constraints, their passion to serve vulnerable communities has not diminished.

“Their resilience is a powerful reminder that, even when global crises draw attention away from Afghanistan, local actors remain on the frontlines—committed to making a difference,” said the training facilitator and MBI’s Founder and CEO, Mohammad Ali Soroosh.

Why This Matters: Investing in Local Capacity

At MBI, we believe that the future of humanitarian and development work in Afghanistan lies in empowering local leaders and institutions. Building their capacity is not only cost-effective—it is essential for ensuring that aid reaches the communities that need it most, in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and locally driven.

This training marks, the beginning of MBI’s broader initiative to provide technical assistance, capacity-building, and strategic consulting for Afghan NGOs, both remotely and in-country. Through partnerships and mentorship, we aim to support Afghan civil society to adapt, grow, and thrive in these uncertain times.

MBI’s Ongoing Commitment

This initiative is part of MBI’s long-term mission to support evidence-based programming, organizational development, and impact-driven strategies in fragile contexts. We will continue expanding our services to NGOs, development actors, and donors seeking to create resilient, community-centered solutions in Afghanistan and beyond.
