A cruise ship carrying a reported 800 passengers contaminated with Covid-19 is heading in the right direction to dock in Sydney on Saturday morning.
The Majestic Princess, which has a complete of greater than 4,000 passengers and crew on board, is scheduled to dock in Sydney Harbour at round 6am on Saturday after a 12-day cruise to New Zealand.
The operator, Princess Cruises, stated that the contaminated passengers had been all “mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic”.
“Reflective of the rise in group transmission, we too have seen extra company check optimistic for Covid-19 on the present voyage of Majestic Princess,” the corporate stated in an announcement.
“These company are mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic and are isolating of their staterooms.
“All unimpacted company are sporting masks and this may proceed after they disembark in Sydney. Now we have been proactively making ready for and managing incidences of Covid-19 and proceed to work intently with NSW Well being together with adhering to their tips.”
It’s the largest single outbreak because the Ruby Princess cruise liner arrived in Sydney in April 2020 with a whole bunch of contaminated passengers on board. Of these, 28 died from Covid-19, prompting a state authorities investigation and a category motion case towards the operator.
It comes as Covid infections are exploding throughout Australia in a fourth wave of the virus pushed by Omicron variants.
